Regional Anthropomorphic Writers Retreat (RAWR)

Current Program Status: Applications Open | Apply to this program.

The Regional Anthropomorphic Writers Retreat is the first (and as of this writing, only) furry-focused residential writing workshop in existence. The retreat brings together up to six furry writers for a five-day period in a dormitory setting where the writers work in close proximity with each other in order to develop their writing skills, learn from each other, and challenge themselves.

The workshop is designed for writers who want more from their writing. Applicants usually want to improve their writing skill, grow their social and professional writing networks, increase their confidence, enthusiasm, and passion for their writing, and learn from their peers and the instructors about various general and specialized topics. The workshop consists of a variety of activities to help attendees reach those goals: lectures on a variety of writing topics, group critique, networking and social time, and one-on-one coaching with the instructors.

The retreat has been in operation since 2015 (with the first retreat held in 2016), and has since served twenty-one attendees across four classes. With the completion of the RAWR4 program, APAW has officially taken on responsibility for this event, including securing the program's current home in Dallas, Texas at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, Texas, facilitating future events, and creating opportunities for alumni to continue to network and communicate. The retreat is schedueld to run starting on the Friday of the first month of June to the following Thursday.
